MONTGOMERY—The beginnings of what will eventually become a very long list of potential witnesses in the Mike Hubbard felony trial began on Tuesday as subpoenas were being sent out. These first subpoenas we believe are for witnesses for the prosecution. Among those who may testify are State Senators, House members, mayors and others with state education ties. Thus far, those who received subpoenas are Senators Gerald Dial, Jimmy Holley, and Paul Bussman.
Representatives who received subpoenas were Steve Clouse, Donnie Chesteen, and former Rep. Mac Buttram.
Mayors include: Billy Blackwell (Ozark), Jay Jaxon (Eufaula), Fletcher Fountain (Fort Deposit), Dexter McLendon (Greenville), and Kenneth Boswell (Enterprise).
Others subpoenaed were Kirk Fulford and Rachel Riddle from the Legislative Fiscal Office; Craig Pouncey, formerly with the State Board of Education; Michael Mitchell, Dean at the University of South Alabama; also Edgar Hinton, Kenneth Mount, Ryan Black, Joel Sport, and Robert Smith.
Ozark Mayor Billy Blackwell’s name has been associated with the Hubbard investigation, since alreporter.com first reported on Hubbard’s consulting contract with the Southeast Alabama Gas District (SEAGD) in 2013.
Most of the mayors are associated with SEAGD.
More witnesses will be listed on Alacourt as the trial draws nearer.
