MONTGOMERY—State Representative Patricia Todd (D-Birmingham) as been named State Director for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC).
According to its website, The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality.
In a press release HRC stated, “Continuing her tremendous work as a lifelong advocate for LGBT equality in Alabama, Todd, an elected State representative, will lead a talented team dedicated to changing hearts and minds, advancing enduring legal protections, and building more inclusive institutions for LGBT Alabamians.”
Of the appointment Todd said, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join HRC Alabama, and I look forward to leading its impactful work in the years ahead.”
One of HRC’s most active initiatives is Project One America, a comprehensive, multi-year campaign to expand LGBT equality in Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.
Project One America interim director Hayden Mora, said, “Representative Todd is a rare talent, a unique combination of intellect, leadership, and moxie, she never takes no for an answer, and always strives to do the right thing for all Alabamians. We are elated to welcome Patricia to our staff.”
The group says it is focused on HRC advancing equality for “LGBT Alabamians who have no statewide protections in housing, workplace, or public accommodations; and legal State recognition for their relationships and families.”
