A product of Montgomery public schools, Dr. Vickrey’s life was changed in the library at Highland Avenue Elementary School, leading to a revitalized understanding of racism and to great fondness for school, college, and university librarians. Between 1954 and 1971, he spent countless hours in libraries earning honors at Lee High School and Auburn, Alabama, FSU, USF, Troy, and other university libraries earning his Ph.D. and J.D. degrees on the way to a career as a teaching and writing college professor and president and practicing lawyer.
