On Thursday, May 1, the Montgomery Chapter of the 50501 movement, in collaboration with Alabama Resisters Indivisible and May Day Strong, will hold a peaceful demonstration at the Alabama State Capitol. Scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the event aims to celebrate International Workers’ Day and rally support for working individuals affected by current economic policies.

The protest is part of a broader National Day of Action, aligning with the 50501 movement’s ongoing efforts to challenge policies of the Trump administration. Originating as a grassroots initiative, the 50501 movement—short for “50 protests, 50 states, 1 movement”—has organized nationwide demonstrations advocating for various causes, including the protection of LGBTQ+ rights, reinstatement of federal diversity initiatives, and opposition to figures like Elon Musk’s involvement in federal affairs.

Speakers at the Montgomery event will include Shane Isner, Corey Springs of IBEW Local Union 443, and Vice President Andrell McMath of APWU-323. These representatives from local unions and workforce sectors will address issues stemming from the administration’s policies, which they describe as detrimental to workers’ rights and economic stability.

Linda Fisher, a retired school teacher and Prattville resident, expressed her support for the protest, stating, “We’re excited to be a part of this enormous, international day of protest. It’s all too obvious that our freedoms are being taken away, and we have to shout that we do not approve.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring signs, banners, and other non-weapon items to convey their messages to representatives. The demonstration will take place at the Alabama State Capitol, located at 600 Dexter Ave, Montgomery, AL 36104.
