Lakepoint State Park will again host “Fins, Feathers and Flowers,” one of the park’s signature events renowned for its celebration of nature and outdoor recreation.
The weekend event, set for Friday, March 28 through Sunday, March 30, features a wide range of activities, including guided tours, social activities, lectures from conservation and wildlife experts and stargazing – all surrounded by the scenic beauty of Lake Eufaula and Lakepoint State Park.
“The annual ‘Fins, Feathers and Flowers’ event features a wide variety of activities for wildlife enthusiasts,” Alabama State Parks Director Matthew Capps said. “Not only does the weekend give people the chance to hear from noted wildlife experts, but every attendee also gets the chance to experience Lakepoint State Park’s amazing natural beauty. It really is a must-see event for outdoor enthusiasts and anyone who loves conservation.”
The weekend kicks off with a conservation fair on Friday, social event and presentation by Dr. Anthony Abbate, an Auburn professor who will explore the challenges facing pollinators and why their survival remains crucial to ecosystems and agriculture. The first night ends with “Friday Night Under The Stars,” led by naturalists from Alabama State Parks.
The Saturday schedule includes a number of field trips, including a guided boat tour on beautiful Lake Eufaula, a birdwatching trip to the nearby Eufaula Wildlife Refuge and an introductory archery class at the Lakepoint Community Archery Park. In the afternoon, attendees can attend the “Live Birds of Prey Program” featuring at least three glove-trained raptors.
A keynote address by retired Alabama Forestry Commission wildlife biologist Ray Metzler caps the Saturday night agenda as he discusses the wealth of unique species in Alabama and explores the pivotal role these creatures play in their ecosystems. On Sunday, a guided field trip to the 1,550-acre Wehle Conservation Center in Midway, which is managed by The Forever Wild Land Trust, completes the weekend festivities.
The “Fins, Feathers and Flowers” event is made possible through a collaborative effort involving Alabama State Parks, Alabama State Lands and Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, all under the management of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, as well as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Packages that include meals and overnight accommodations are available, with links and the full schedule found online at https://www.alapark.com/parks/lakepoint-state-park/fins-feathers-and-flowers-weekend.
The park is located at 104 Lakepoint Dr., Eufaula, Alabama.
“The annual ‘Fins, Feathers and Flowers’ event at Lakepoint ranks among the best events offered by Alabama State Parks every year, and we look forward to a great crowd again this year,” Capps said.
