Christina Woerner McInnis, a fifth-generation farmer and entrepreneur from Baldwin County, has officially announced her candidacy for Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. With a deep-seated commitment to sustainable agriculture and soil health, McInnis aims to bolster the state’s agricultural sector by supporting farmers, promoting innovation, and enhancing rural economies.
“As a lifelong farmer and businesswoman, I know the challenges and opportunities facing Alabama agriculture,” McInnis stated in her announcement. “We need leadership that understands both the traditions that built this industry and the innovations that will secure its future. I’m running to ensure our farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses have the support they need to thrive.”
Raised in the Woerner family—renowned for over a century of farming and as one of the nation’s leading turf grass producers—McInnis developed a deep-rooted passion for agriculture. In 2019, she founded AgriTech Corp and introduced SoilKit, an innovative soil testing solution designed to simplify soil health analysis for homeowners and professionals. Under her leadership, AgriTech secured partnerships with eight lawn and garden distributors, a major land grant university, and a big-box retailer within its first year. The company received minority woman-owned certification from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs in 2020.
McInnis also served as a commissioner for the City of Orange Beach and was honored with the Alabama Rural-Owned Small Business of the Year Award in 2023, by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
“My goal as Commissioner is simple: protect and promote Alabama agriculture,” McInnis emphasized. “That means expanding market opportunities for our farmers, investing in agricultural technology, strengthening our ports and supply chains, and ensuring our policies support—not hinder—those who feed and fuel our state.”
Her campaign will focus on key priorities, including supporting family farms, advocating for sustainable farming practices, promoting agricultural exports through Alabama’s ports, and cutting bureaucratic red tape that burdens small agribusinesses.
McInnis resides in Orange Beach with her husband, Timothy, and their four children.
The Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries oversees the state’s Department of Agriculture, promoting and regulating agricultural and industrial activity. The next election for this position is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026.
As the election approaches, McInnis plans to engage with farmers, agribusinesses, and rural communities across Alabama to share her vision for the future of the state’s agriculture.
