Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin officially launched his 2025 reelection campaign with a rally at Iron City Bham on Saturday, drawing nearly 600 supporters. In his address, Woodfin highlighted his administration’s achievements over the past eight years and outlined future goals centered on infrastructure, public safety, and education.
“We can either keep pushing forward—fighting for good jobs, safe neighborhoods, and real opportunity for every family—or let outside forces and old ways of thinking hold us back,” Woodfin stated. “This campaign is about one thing: building a city that works for all of our residents.”
State Senator Merika Coleman praised the administration’s impact on employment, noting, “8,000 jobs created under the Woodfin administration. That’s 8,000 families that have some stability.” She also lauded the Birmingham Promise initiative, which has enabled 1,600 students to attend college tuition-free.
Jefferson County Commissioner Sheila Tyson emphasized the importance of continued leadership, urging, “Mayor Randall Woodfin has shown y’all that he can make something out of nothing… You would be a fool not to vote this man back in office.”
Woodfin’s tenure has seen significant investments, including over $60 million in street paving and $11 million for the Birmingham Promise program. Despite challenges, such as addressing the city’s homicide rate, his administration has implemented a $16 million police recruitment and retention program and invested more than $8 million in youth programs focusing on conflict resolution and mental health resources.
As the election approaches, Mayor Woodfin faces competition from state Rep. Juandalynn Givan and community activist, Kamau Afrika, who have announced their candidacies for the mayoral seat.
