Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen announced his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor in 2026, seeking the Republican nomination for the open seat. Allen, who previously served as Pike County Probate Judge and as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives, was elected as Alabama’s 54th Secretary of State in 2022 with nearly two-thirds of the vote.
“I am incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished in the Secretary of State’s office,” Allen said. “From cleaning up our voter rolls to creating and launching the most effective voter integrity database in the country to ensuring that business owners across our state have their needs met efficiently and effectively.”
Allen’s tenure as Secretary of State drew national attention when, immediately after taking office, he withdrew Alabama from the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), a multi-state voter registration system. He later criticized the organization, alleging that its official address was vacant and lacked operational infrastructure. In response, Allen’s office implemented the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID), which he claims has helped identify thousands of deceased or relocated voters still on Alabama’s rolls.
“When I took office, Alabama’s voter roll was a bloated mess,” Allen said. “I am proud of the fact that we have been able to do the hard work that it took to create a program resulting in a much more accurate voter roll. The people of Alabama deserve that.”
Allen’s actions on election security earned him recognition from U.S. Senator Katie Britt, who invited him to testify before Congress on issues of voter integrity. During his testimony, Allen criticized the Biden administration’s policies on voter registration, alleging that they obstruct states’ efforts to verify citizenship. His office also collaborated with law enforcement to investigate and prosecute cases of alleged voter fraud, including the recent conviction of Angelina Maria Francisco, a Guatemalan national sentenced for illegally voting in multiple elections before Allen took office.
Beyond his work as Secretary of State, Allen championed conservative policies as a legislator. During his tenure in the Alabama House, he sponsored legislation banning gender-affirming care for minors—a policy he highlighted in his campaign announcement.
“The past four years have been difficult for the American people as we have seen our economy tank, our borders overrun by illegals, and prices skyrocket. Now, we see things turning around because of President Trump’s common-sense leadership,” Allen said. “Now more than ever, we need conservative leaders in elected office that can be effective on the state level to counter liberal policies.”
Allen emphasized his commitment to blocking “any efforts to impose a liberal agenda” and touted his record of cutting government spending.
“My track record is crystal clear,” he said. “I’ve done so by leading the way on conservative legislation and eliminating red tape and wasteful spending, saving Alabama taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars. That is what I will continue to do as Lt. Governor.”
The Republican primary for Alabama’s Lieutenant Governor seat is scheduled for May 26, 2026.
