Connie Hudson has officially launched her campaign for Mayor of Mobile, announcing her candidacy through a video posted online along with a written statement outlining her priorities and vision for the city ahead of the August 26 municipal election.

“Today, after months of thought and prayerful consideration and a tremendous outpouring of support from the community, I am very pleased to formally announce my candidacy for Mayor of Mobile,” Hudson stated. “It would be my honor and privilege to serve as your Mayor and to continue the momentum and the progress that Mobile has experienced in recent years.”

Hudson praised the “transformational leadership” of outgoing Mayor Sandy Stimpson, who has overseen major infrastructure projects and economic growth in the city. “Mobile is on the cusp of a new era and will require strong and experienced leadership,” Hudson said. “I believe that my qualifications and experience as a Mobile County Commissioner with completing major capital projects would provide the direction and the vision that is necessary.”

In her statement, Hudson outlined a platform focused on public safety, economic development, and quality-of-life improvements. “As your Mayor, I’ll pledge to prioritize public safety improvements and quality-of-life initiatives that include new jobs through economic development, business and neighborhood revitalization, strengthened public school partnerships, a renewed focus on beautification, a cleaner, litter-free environment, support for parks/recreation and sports and entertainment venues, and creating a family-friendly environment for our citizens and attracting new families to Mobile,” she said.

Hudson encouraged residents to watch her campaign video and join her effort. “I would be honored to have your support as we embark on this campaign journey,” she said.

Hudson’s roots in Mobile run deep. She and her husband, Dennis, have raised three children in the city and are now grandparents to five. Hudson’s civic engagement began as a public-school parent, where she led efforts to push for change in Mobile County Public Schools. Her political career started in 2001, when she was elected to the Mobile City Council, where she represented District 6 for nine years before becoming Mobile County Commissioner for District 2, a position she has held for 14 years.

Throughout her time in office, Hudson has played a key role in securing major economic development projects for the Mobile area, including the site selections for the ThyssenKrupp Steel Plant (now AM/NS Calvert), Austal USA, and the Airbus U.S. Final Assembly Line at Brookley Aeroplex. More recent projects include the Airbus A220 Expansion, the Walmart Distribution Center, the Amazon Sortation Center, and the South Alabama Logistics Park.

Hudson has emphasized job creation and infrastructure improvements as cornerstones of her leadership. She helped spearhead projects such as the Mobile County Recycling Drop-Off Center, the Tanner Williams Community Park, and the newly announced indoor aquatic center near I-10 and I-65. She also directed the construction of a 10-field soccer complex and oversaw renovations at the Escatawpa Hollow Park and Campground.

In addition to economic initiatives, Hudson has prioritized quality-of-life projects. Her efforts on the City Council included leading the development of a 20,000-square-foot senior recreation center in Mobile and the establishment of the Semmes Senior Center, which was later expanded in 2021.

During her tenure, Hudson has directed over $200 million in Pay-As-You-Go Program funding for infrastructure improvements in District 2, much of which has benefited the City of Mobile.

Hudson’s professional background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Troy University. She is also a licensed real estate professional and previously worked as a hematology specialist and pathology instructor at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.

Her husband Dennis retired after a 30-year career as a Senior Staff Engineer with BASF. The couple’s three children have pursued successful careers in various fields, including military service, law, and music performance. Their eldest, Brian, is a U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander and F/A-18 Super Hornet pilot.

The Hudsons are active members of Christ United Church in Mobile.

As Hudson enters the mayoral race, she brings a wealth of experience in both city and county government, along with a track record of securing major economic wins for the region. With her focus on public safety, economic development, and quality-of-life initiatives, Hudson is positioning herself as a candidate who will “continue the momentum” of Mobile’s recent growth while steering the city into a new era.

“My vision for Mobile is one of continued progress, stronger communities, and a brighter future for all,” Hudson said. “I look forward to meeting with residents across the city and hearing their ideas and concerns as we move forward together.”
