Katie Britt named deputy whip, joins Senate GOP leadership team

The deputy whip team will play a crucial role in ensuring party unity and facilitating the passage of legislation central to President Trump’s policy objectives.

U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-Ala., has been appointed as a deputy whip by the newly instated Senate Majority Whip, Senator John Barrasso, R-Wyo., In this capacity, Senator Britt will assist in consolidating the Republican conference and advancing President Trump’s legislative agenda.

Expressing her enthusiasm, Senator Britt stated, “I am honored Senator Barrasso chose me to join his team as one of the deputy whips. Our new Senate Republican majority has a tremendous opportunity to get things done and enact President Trump’s agenda. As deputy whip, I am excited to help unite our conference and make a difference in the lives of hardworking Americans.”

Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso praised Britt’s dedication, saying, “I’m glad to have Katie as a member of our Whip Team. Katie is a fearless fighter for families and forgotten Americans. Her guiding principle is opportunity for all, especially our children. She works every day in the Senate to save our country and pass along a brighter future to the next generation. Katie is an incredible advocate for family-first solutions.”

Other senators appointed as deputy whips include Jim Banks, R-Ind., Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., John Cornyn, R-Texas, Deb Fischer, R-Neb., James Lankford, R-Okla., Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, Thom Tillis, R-N.C., and Todd Young, R-Ind.

Senator Britt, who began her first term in the U.S. Senate in January 2023, has quickly risen within the Republican ranks. She serves on several key committees, including Judiciary, Appropriations, Banking, and Rules. Her appointment as deputy whip underscores her growing influence and commitment to advancing legislative priorities that align with the Republican agenda.

Senator Barrasso, who was sworn in as Senate Majority Whip on January 3,  emphasized the Republican majority’s readiness to implement policies reflecting the electorate’s desires. He remarked, “Americans voted boldly this year to lower costs, secure our border, and unleash American energy. Senate Republicans heard them loud and clear. We are ready to deliver a new direction for our country with President Trump.”
