Americans for Prosperity-Alabama applauds the thousands of Alabamians who applied for education savings accounts (ESAs) on the program’s opening day. By late Thursday, applications had been submitted for 4,800 children. The ESA program comes as a result of Governor Kay Ivey’s Creating Hope and Opportunity for Our Students’ Education (CHOOSE) Act, signed into law in March 2024. This landmark legislation empowers families with education options to meet their unique needs, making a significant step forward for education freedom in Alabama.
AFP-AL State Director, Adam Thompson, released the following statement:
“Americans for Prosperity is proud to have led extensive efforts to pass the CHOOSE Act. The overwhelming response to the ESA program, with thousands of applications submitted on opening day, shows that this is the education reform Alabamians have been waiting for. Every child in Alabama deserves access to a quality education that meets their individual needs, and this program is a monumental leap in the right direction. At AFP-AL, we remain committed to continuing our work with Alabamians and lawmakers to expand education freedom across the state and we’re thrilled to see so many families sign up to take advantage of this great opportunity.”
The CHOOSE Act was signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey on March 7, 2024. The legislation established Alabama’s ESA program, empowering families with education options that meet their personal needs. AFP-AL launched a grassroots campaign in support of the CHOOSE Act and education freedom by launching digital resources, sending over 1,300 emails to legislators, and testifying in front of multiple legislative committees.
