Data from the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division reveals that Alabama had 77,956 job advertisements in November 2024, marking a monthly decline of 1.6 percent. The five occupations with the highest number of online job ads were Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, and Customer Service Representatives, accounting for 12,558 ads collectively.
The Help Wanted Online (HWOL) data, compiled from sources such as AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, traditional job boards, corporate job boards, and social media platforms, provides a comprehensive view of employment opportunities in the state. Among the job ads posted in November, 31,638 included salary details. Of these, 9,189 offered salaries of $70,000 or more, while 8,690 fell within the $35,000 to $49,000 range. Another 5,411 offered salaries between $50,000 and $69,000, and 8,348 advertised salaries below $35,000.
Huntsville Hospital emerged as the leading employer in the state for the month, posting 1,089 job ads, followed by Walmart with 923 postings. Other major employers included UAB Medicine with 788 ads, Taco Bell with 692, and Jack’s Family Restaurants with 503. Circle K, Regions Financial, Baptist Health, Auburn University, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham rounded out the top ten employers, with postings ranging from 385 to 421 ads.
This month’s HWOL Occupation Focus highlights Exercise Trainers and Group Fitness Instructors. These professionals are responsible for instructing individuals or groups in exercise activities, ensuring proper technique, and developing personalized fitness programs. The position typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, as well as one to two years of on-the-job training or informal mentoring. The median advertised salary for these positions in Alabama is $47,232, with an estimated 805 annual openings statewide.
