The Alabama NAACP has released details of a press conference they will hold to bring attention to the unfair termination of Johnny Williams. The event will take place Friday, Dec. 20th, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Clair County Board of Education.

The release describes Johnny Williams, who owns a minority commercial cleaning company, J Williams Janitorial, LLC., and says he was wrongfully terminated and banned, with no explanation, from all premises within the St. Clair County Schools district. For 12 years, Mr. Williams has bid on cleaning contracts with the schools’ system and won, usually with the lowest bid. But last year, Williams was terminated and removed from all future contractual services.

“The Alabama NAACP stands with individuals like Mr. Williams where race has played a part in his termination, so we stand today, demanding an explanation of termination,” said Benard Simelton, president of Alabama NAACP.

“Our mission is to achieve equity, political rights, and social inclusion by advancing policies and practices that expand human and civil rights, eliminate discrimination, and accelerate the well-being, education, and economic security of Black people and all persons of color. When we Fight, We Win!” the release said.

The St. Clair County Board of Education is located at 410 Roy Dr. Ashville, AL 35953.
