Effective January 1, 2025, the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA) will rebrand as Energy Southeast, marking the organization’s first name change since its founding in 1981.
The rebrand comes on the heels of successful energy initiatives and partnerships that have expanded AMEA’s reach beyond its Montgomery, Alabama, headquarters.
“We’re broadening our services, both functionally and geographically,” said Energy Southeast President & CEO Fred D. Clark, Jr. “We’re advancing the mission of public, locally owned power of all types.”
Energy Southeast will continue to serve its 11 Member communities across Alabama while also extending services to other public power entities throughout the Southeast region.
“It’s all about helping cities and towns tackle the challenges of growth,” Clark said. “How do they address workforce and infrastructure issues while retaining the character of the neighborhoods, parks, schools and businesses they cherish? Energy Southeast is putting power behind their efforts to achieve quality of place.”
Formed in 1981 as a joint action agency, Energy Southeast, Inc. serves as the wholesale power provider for 11 public power utilities in Alabama, which collectively serve approximately 350,000 customers. The organization’s mission remains focused on delivering a reliable and economical source of electric power to its Member communities, enabling them to preserve and enhance the benefits of municipal utility ownership.
With this evolution, Energy Southeast positions itself to play a larger role in advancing energy solutions across the region while supporting local growth and development.
