U.S. Rep. Dale Strong, R-Ala., has been selected by House Republican leadership to serve on the influential House Appropriations Committee as he prepares to enter his second term in Congress. The appointment will make Strong the first Republican to represent Alabama’s 5th Congressional District on the committee.
The House Appropriations Committee holds significant authority over federal spending as outlined in the U.S. Constitution. The committee is responsible for overseeing all discretionary spending and regulating federal expenditures.
U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, R-OK, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, commented on Strong’s appointment.
“I welcome Dale to the Committee and look forward to working with him,” Cole said. “His leadership in local government and lifelong commitment to public service uniquely position him for this role. I believe he will be a valuable asset to the Committee as we work to restore conservative ideals and responsibly fund the federal government.”
Strong himself also reflected on his appointment, emphasizing his focus on prioritizing national interests and echoing the “America First” rhetoric of President-elect Donald Trump.
“It’s past time we put America First. Those that serve on this committee are not seeking to be popular and are willing to take the tough votes to save America for future generations,” Strong said. “Chairman Tom Cole understands the changes that must be made, and I am honored to serve alongside him. Our time is now!”
Strong also expressed his desire to represent Alabama’s interests through his newfound role, “Alabama has a decades-spanning history of powerful service on the Appropriations Committee. This assignment ensures our state’s historical influence on how federal dollars are spent continues.”
Currently, U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Ala., serves as the only representative from Alabama on the committee.
Strong will be officially welcomed to the Appropriations Committee pending ratification from the House Republican Conference. U.S. Reps. Mark Alford, R-MO, Nick LaLota, R-NY, Celeste Maloy, R-UT, and Riley Moore, R-WV, will also be joining the committee.
Prior to this latest appointment, Strong served on the House Armed Services Committee, the Homeland Security Committee, and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. Strong also participated in the Strategic Forces, Readiness, and Cyber, Innovative Technologies, and Information Systems subcommittees.
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Rep. Strong will have the chance to play a pivotal role in shaping federal spending priorities.
The incoming Trump administration is also likely to be fond of Strong’s appointment, as the congressman remains an outspoken supporter of the president-elect. “President Trump has set a mandate, and it’s time to get to work on his agenda,” Strong posted to his X account after his appointment was announced.
