Avoid the city of Prattville at all costs.
It’s too dangerous. Please, don’t risk the safety of you or your loved ones by venturing into such a lawless city that is apparently overrun with thugs and criminals who are threatening the general public’s welfare.
How bad have things gotten in the northern suburb of Montgomery?
On Thursday morning, the mayor of the “preferred community” was forced to issue a statement removing a float from the annual Prattville Christmas parade because some of the outlaws and hooligans who apparently run wild in the city have threatened the public’s safety should the float remain part of the festivities.
The float in question is sponsored by the Prattville Pride organization – a group whose stated goal is to promote love, acceptance and diversity. And, well, dammit, we can’t have that in a Christmas parade, so some Prattville yahoos made a few threats, and the city was asked to provide a couple of police officers to make sure no one tried to vandalize the float or do anything dumb.
But sensing his city was out of control and overrun by hooligans and thugs, Mayor Bill Gillespie jumped through the opening.
“(Thursday) morning, it was brought to the city’s attention from Prattville Pride that there are serious safety concerns regarding Prattville Pride’s participation in the Christmas parade,” Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie said. “Until today, there has only been conjecture and speculation regarding potential safety concerns that Prattville Pride’s participation in the parade may cause.
“The city will not put the rights of parade participants ahead of the safety of its citizens. Because of the safety concerns for Prattville Pride, other parade participants, as well as parade bystanders, the city has made the decision to remove Prattville Pride from the Christmas parade.
“This decision was made with careful thought and consideration while balancing the rights of parade participants against the overall safety of everyone involved at the parade. The city will always respect freedoms and rights of expression. However, as in this instance, it must put the overall safety of its citizens first.”
It’s a real shame that Prattville has gone downhill so quickly over the last few years. But I guess that’s what happens when you invite a certain element into your town and never take measures to curtail their ignorance and bigotry.
What’s happening here is disgusting. It’s anti-American. Hell, it’s even anti-Christian. I mean, can you imagine Jesus turning away a pride float? Or any float?
This is the danger, though, of religious zealots and the creeping of Christianity into the everyday practice of American governance. There is no end to the discrimination that can be tolerated and excused away when you believe your religion is excusing your behaviors, abhorrent as they might be.
Today, it’s a pride float in a parade or a handful of books in the library. Tomorrow, those people are unclean and poisoning the blood of America.
Oh, wait, maybe tomorrow is already today.
But the point remains the same. We have laws in this country for a reason, and two of our most important are freedom of speech and freedom of religion.
For those in Prattville’s government, and anyone else who has forgotten their meanings, the first means government cannot restrict the free speech and expressions – so long as the words themselves pose no threat (such as crying “fire” in a crowded theater) – of any citizens (including the gay ones) and you are free to practice, or not practice, any religion you’d like and our government will provide no special treatments for any specific religion.
Those two laws have kept us largely bomb-free and thriving for a couple hundred years now. And they’ll continue to do so, so long as our elected officials, and the law enforcement agencies they command, continue to honor those basic rights.
Unfortunately, that’s not happening in Prattville, where apparently the rule of law and the constitution take a backseat to the imminent threat posed by the sheer volume of criminals and thugs that control the town and have overrun the police department. Clearly, the mayor and city leaders there feel so threatened by the lawlessness that has enveloped that community that they’ve been forced, as a last resort, to abandon their sworn duties to uphold the constitution and protect the freedoms guaranteed to all citizens.
With that being the case, I beg all of you: Please don’t go to Prattville. It’s not worth the risk.
