The Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama (ABC Alabama) wrapped up its 2024 Hard Hat Tour with a visit from Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth to Harrison Construction’s job site at the renovated Bryce Hospital in Tuscaloosa on Monday.
Lieutenant Governor Ainsworth engaged with industry leaders and frontline workers, discussing critical issues impacting the construction industry. Topics included streamlining regulations, reducing red tape, and innovative workforce development strategies aimed at addressing labor shortages and sustaining economic growth.
ABC Alabama President Jay Reed highlighted the value of these discussions, stating, “As an industry, we are very susceptible to excessive red tape and regulation. It was great to discuss options for streamlining and reducing those burdens on our members with the Lieutenant Governor. We also discuss some interesting concepts relating to workforce development and how the state and industry can partner to address those needs.”
Tim Harrison, President of Harrison Construction and incoming ABC Alabama President, praised Lieutenant Governor Ainsworth’s commitment to the construction sector. “Lt. Governor Ainsworth has been an ally of ABC and our industry from day one. He understands that our industry has a $17 billion impact on the state’s economy. Our industry needs to develop new strategies and tactics to improve our ability to recruit and retain workers, and he gets that,” Harrison said.
The ABC Alabama Hard Hat Tour serves as a vital initiative for connecting state leaders with the construction industry. By visiting active job sites, policymakers gain firsthand insight into the industry’s challenges and opportunities. The program fosters dialogue aimed at crafting forward-thinking solutions that support the advancement of Alabama’s $17 billion construction sector.
Lieutenant Governor Ainsworth’s visit underscores the importance of collaboration between the state and industry leaders in addressing regulatory burdens and workforce challenges to ensure sustained growth and success for Alabama’s construction industry.
