The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) is undergoing a significant leadership transition as Executive Director Reed Phillips departs to pursue a new professional opportunity. Phillips, who has been with the party for nearly a decade, leaves behind a legacy of expanding GOP influence and success throughout the state.

Phillips began his tenure with ALGOP as Political Director before being promoted to Executive Director in 2020. During his time in leadership, the Republican Party significantly increased its share of partisan elected offices across Alabama, growing from 54 percent to over 73 percent. His efforts helped the party gain footholds in areas where it had historically struggled to compete.

“Reed Phillips has been an integral part of the Alabama Republican Party’s success,” said Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl. “His strategic vision and tireless efforts have helped lead our Party to new heights, and his contributions will leave a lasting legacy. While we will miss his leadership and friendship, we are excited for him as he takes on this new opportunity. We wish him nothing but success in the future.”

Reflecting on his tenure, Phillips expressed gratitude and optimism. “It has been an incredible honor to serve the Alabama Republican Party and work alongside so many talented and dedicated individuals,” he said. “I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to help grow our Party and for the friendships I’ve built with members of the State Executive Committee and grassroots leaders across the state. I look forward to seeing the Party continue to thrive in the years ahead.”

To ensure a seamless transition, ALGOP announced that Shannon Whitt, the Party’s Director of Finance and Special Events, will succeed Phillips as Executive Director. Whitt has been instrumental in overseeing ALGOP’s recent record-breaking fundraising efforts.

“Shannon Whitt is an exceptional leader with a proven track record of success,” Chairman Wahl said. “Her abilities have empowered the Alabama Republican Party to compete and succeed on a national level within the Republican Party. I have full confidence that her vision, professionalism, and deep institutional knowledge will continue to propel the Party forward.”

Whitt expressed enthusiasm for her new role and the future of the Party. “I want to thank Chairman Wahl for his confidence and support,” she said. “It is an honor to step into this role and continue the work of growing our Party and promoting conservative values across Alabama. I am excited to build on our successes and look forward to working with our incredible team to achieve even greater accomplishments.”
