Alabama District 2 Congressman-Elect Shomari Figures on Monday released his Transition Advisory Council. The bipartisan council will provide insight, recommendations, and advice to Figures as he prepares to represent the 13 counties of District 2 in Congress beginning in January.

“We are committed to hitting the ground running, and ensuring that we are working in an informed, bipartisan fashion to solve the challenges in our District,” Figures said in a statement. “This group of advisors brings decades of public service, experience, and knowledge of the most pressing issues in the communities of District 2. I thank each of them for agreeing to serve in this capacity, and look forward to their invaluable contributions to the future of District 2 and the State of Alabama.”

The bipartisan group of advisors collectively represent a variety of sectors. Each member of the council has direct ties to one or more counties in District 2, with each county being represented by at least one member. The council includes former members of Congress; local, county, and state level officials; and various leaders in the business, education, faith, and law enforcement communities.

Members of the council are:

  • Carol J. Banks, owner of Banks Memorial Funeral Home and Cremations in Monroeville
  • Florence W. Bellamy, member of the Phenix City Schools board of education
  • Jo Bonner, former U.S. congressman and current president of the University of South Alabama in Mobile
  • State Rep. Napoleon Bracy, D-Prichard
  • Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson
  • Anna Buckelew, president and CEO of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce
  • Bradley Byrne, former U.S. congressman and current president and CEO of the Mobile Chamber of Commerce
  • Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels, D-Huntsville
  • Jessica Dent, economic development director for the city of Evergreen and owner of Balanced Development LLC.
  • State Sen. Vivian Figures, D-Mobile, mother of Shomari Figures
  • State Rep. Jeremy Gray, D-Auburn
  • Sen. Kirk Hatcher, D-Montgomery
  • Elliot B. Maisel, Chairman and CEO of Gulf Distributing Holdings and chairman of the Mobile Airport Authority
  • Judge Gaines McCorquodale, retired circuit court judge for the 1st judicial circuit
  • Clayton City Councilwoman Brittani O’Hara-Grant, a U.S. veteran
  • Troy Mayor Jason Reeves
  • Former U.S. Congresswoman Martha Roby
  • Dr. Quinton T. Ross, president of Alabama State University and former Democratic state senator representing Montgomery
  • Crenshaw County Commissioner Charlie Sankey Jr., pastor at Rockwest Baptist Church
  • State Sen. Robert Stewart, D-Selma

Figures campaigned on the promise of working across the aisle to bring resources back to the District, helping address issues such as healthcare, economic development, infrastructure investments, education and gun violence.
