Election Day 2024: What to know as Alabamians head to the polls

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. as voters decide the outcome of a number of local, state, and federal races.

Today, Tuesday, Nov. 5, Alabamians will cast their votes in the 2024 general election. The ballot includes federal, state, and local races, with major offices up for grabs, including the presidency, vice presidency, U.S. House seats, and several seats on the Alabama Supreme Court.

Are You Prepared to Vote?

For those heading to the polls, here are some essential details to keep in mind to ensure a smooth voting experience.

Polling Hours: Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. If you’re a registered voter and in line by 7 p.m., stay in line — you’ll still be allowed to vote.

Photo ID Requirement: Alabama requires a valid photo ID to vote. For more information on accepted forms of ID, visit the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.

Check Your Sample Ballot and Polling Location: Sample ballots by county are available, allowing voters to review the races and amendments beforehand. You can check your registration status and polling place on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.

Voters are reminded they can vote for any candidate in the general election, regardless of previous participation in a primary.
