The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has awarded over $3.6 million in grants to 16 airports across Alabama, aiming to enhance infrastructure and support local economies through aviation facility improvements. These grants, provided through the Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program, are part of a broader effort to improve transportation efficiency and safety statewide.

Albertville Regional Airport will receive $253,856 in state funding for terminal apron microsurfacing, with the City of Albertville contributing $84,619 in matching funds, making the total project value $338,475. Anniston Regional Airport has been allocated $16,926 from a state grant and $304,677 from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to update its master plan, matched by $16,927 from the City of Anniston. Craig Field Airport and Industrial Authority will receive $1,529,148 from the FAA and $84,952 from ALDOT, with an additional $84,953 in local funds to reconstruct a taxiway.

Additional projects include $185,107 for sealcoating and pavement repairs at Cullman Regional-Folsom Field, matched with $61,702 in local funding, and $6.3 million for runway rehabilitation at Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority, funded through FAA and local contributions. Enterprise Municipal Airport will use $500,000 in state grant funds, matched by $500,000 from the City of Enterprise, to construct a corporate hangar.

Other airports benefiting from this round of funding include Florala Municipal Airport, receiving $34,254 for pavement maintenance on the midfield apron and taxiway connector, with $11,418 in matching local funds, and Huntsville Executive Airport, which will use $1,624,573 from the FAA and $90,254 from ALDOT to install wildlife fencing and construct a runway safety area. Lanett Regional Airport will apply $287,764 in state funds toward a new Jet A Fuel Farm, matched by an equal contribution from the city.

The program also funds several other projects, such as pavement maintenance at Guntersville Municipal Airport, Tuscaloosa National Airport’s terminal renovation design, and taxilane improvements at St. Clair County Airport. The Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program, administered by ALDOT, supports these and other initiatives by providing financial and technical assistance to public airports throughout the state, enhancing the capacity and reliability of Alabama’s airport infrastructure.
