State prosecutors have dropped the harassment charge against Alabama Department of Transportation Director John Cooper following his neighbor, Gerald Carter, opting not to pursue the matter.

Carter had accused Cooper of threatening to shoot him during a property dispute in Marshall County.

The Marshall County District Attorney’s Office filed a motion to dismiss the case, which Judge Mitchell S. Floyd approved.

While the criminal charge has been dismissed, a civil suit related to the property dispute remains set for trial in October.
