The Southern Cultural Center hosted its third “national conference” last month with the theme being “secede to survive.”
The idea of a modern-day secession is not new to the group, a splinter group from the League of the South that is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The group’s website lays bare the group’s interest in Alabama seceding from the union.
“WE WILL HONOR OUR PAST AND DRAW FROM IT STRENGTH, COURAGE, AND WISDOM TO OURSELVES TO GO FORWARD AND ATTAIN OUR FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE IN OUR OWN LAND. (Alabama)” the group posted on its Facebook Monday.
According to the post, the conference averaged 86 people each day of the two-day conference with 106 unique individuals attending at the group’s facility in Wetumpka.
The recap includes several “truths” that the members gleaned from the visiting speakers.
“THE ‘CRAZINESS’ IN OUR SOCIETY TODAY IS A RESULT OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S FULL CONTROL OF OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM. EVERY GROUP FROM LGBTQ, BLM, RAMPANT CRIME TO ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE PROTECTED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT EXCEPT FOR ONE GROUP THAT DOES NOT HAVE PROTECTION, THE SOUTHERN WHITE CHRISTIAN,” the SCC posted on its official Facebook page.
The group added: “REMEMBER THAT OUR ANCESTORS WERE NOT ONLY HERE IN THE SOUTH BUT ALSO IN GREAT BRITAIN, AND WERE CAUCASIAN. WHEN ASKED, CHRIST ANSWERED ‘I AM NOT SENT BUT UNTO THE LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL (MATT 15:24)’. WE ARE THE LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF iSRAEL THAT OUR LORD AND SAVIOR CAME TO FIND, GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE. WE WILL WIN IN THE END.”
The group apparently has a plan besides an unlikely secession to fight back against the “government’s full control of our school system,” using public tax dollars to do so.
According to the group’s post, SCC President Mike Whorton “IS DEVELOPING A FULL ACADEMIC CURRICULUM FOR HOME SCHOOLING AVAILABLE TO OUR SOUTHERN SUPPORTERS,” the post states. “ALABAMA HAS NOW PASSED INTO LAW THE ‘SCHOOL CHOICE’ THAT INCLUDES FUNDING TO PARENTS WHO CHOOSE HOME SCHOOLING FOR THEIR CHILDREN. THIS WILL BE A GREAT GIFT TO MANY ALABAMA FAMILIES.”
