The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced on Friday that it has allocated over $485,000 in state funding to three municipal airports for significant improvements.

The Auburn University Regional Airport in Auburn is set to receive $790,844 from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and $43,935 from a state grant to expand the north terminal area apron. The airport will also contribute $43,937 in matching local funds, bringing the total value of the project to $878,716.

In Cullman, the Cullman Regional Airport-Folsom Field will receive $225,099 from the FAA and $12,505 from a state grant to reconstruct a general aviation apron. The City of Cullman will provide $12,506 in matching local funds, making the total value of this project $250,110.

The Tuscaloosa National Airport in Tuscaloosa is slated to receive $428,716 from a state grant to apply a crack seal on two taxiways. The City of Tuscaloosa will contribute $142,906 in matching local funds, with the project totaling $571,622.

These grants are part of ALDOT’s Alabama Airport Improvement Funding Program, which provides financial assistance and engineering services to airport owners for the acquisition, construction, expansion, maintenance, or operation of public airport facilities. ALDOT plans to award approximately $8 million in state funds to various local airports across Alabama during the 2024 fiscal year.
