Nurses, retail salespersons and retail supervisors are the top jobs in June

Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in June 2024, there were 82,270 job ads posted in Alabama, representing a monthly increase of 3.3 percent.

The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Retail Salespersons, Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers, Fast Food and Counter Workers, and Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers with 12,959 ads placed for those occupations in June.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

In June 2024, there were 31,710 total job ads with salaries, including 8,057 jobs ads with salaries of $70,000 and above; 8,034 jobs ads with salaries in the $35-49,000 range; 6,249 jobs ads with salaries in the $50-69,000 range, and 9,370 jobs ads with salaries less than $35,000.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in June were Huntsville Hospital with 878 ads and UAB Medicine with 816 ads. The rest of the top 10 were: Walmart (748), The University of Alabama at Birmingham (657), Baptist Health (509), Taco Bell (495), Auburn University (461), Sonic Drive-in (451), The University of Alabama (450), and Dollar General (446).

Those employed in this occupation sell life, property, casualty, health, automotive, or other types of insurance and may refer clients to independent brokers, work as an independent broker, or be employed by an insurance company. They may also customize insurance programs to suit individual customers, often covering a variety of risks. Typically, employees in these occupations usually need a high school education or GED and usually need several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training. They may also need a license from the State of Alabama Department of Insurance. The advertised median salary for Insurance Sales Agents in Alabama is $51,072. This occupation has 690 Annual Total Openings in Alabama.
