The City of Huntsville announced yesterday that they will be accepting cohorts for their fall 2024 Civic Engagement Academy.
The CEA, a program by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, is a six-week program, including a preliminary orientation and graduation. The program is for residents, business owners and students in Huntsville or surrounding areas.
Designed to demystify local government and its various departments serving the city, participants will graduate from the program with new knowledge and skills to help make a positive impact within their community.
“The Civic Engagement Academy is more than a program; it’s a gateway to fostering positive community impact,” Kenny Anderson, Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, said in a statement.
Participants must be at least 19 years old with a drive to increase community involvement and act as an established or aspiring community influence. The first 50 applicants who meet these eligibility requirements will be accepted.
The fall 2024 session begins on Sept. 24 with orientation and will have subsequent classes every Tuesday until the graduation on Nov. 5. Classes will combine interactive instruction as well as learning in a standard classroom setting.
Residents who hope to learn more about the city government and become more involved in the community are asked to apply on the City of Huntsville website.
