DeKalb County received $450,000 in Rebuild Alabama funds for the resurfacing of CR-89 from SR-35 to DeSoto State Park. The project was included in Governor Ivey’s second round of Rebuild Alabama Annual Grants for 2024.
“From road safety to economic development, the Rebuild Alabama Act is paving the way towards a better Alabama of tomorrow,” said House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter, R-Rainsville. “DeSoto State Park is the pride of DeKalb County, and we should be doing everything we can to make it as safely accessible for residents and tourists as possible. I appreciate Governor Ivey’s support of this project and look forward to our continued efforts to address Alabama’s infrastructure challenges.”
Since its enactment in 2019, the Rebuild Alabama Act has supported over $150 million in local transportation projects across Alabama. On average, DeKalb County receives approximately $1.2 million per year in projects.
“Our state’s continued economic success begins with our roads. Better infrastructure supports jobs, business and the safety of Alabamians. The resurfacing of County Road 89 will facilitate smoother travel and draw more tourists to our cherished state park — Alabama’s fifth-most visited natural destination,” said Senate Majority Leader Steve Livingston, R-Scottsboro. “DeKalb County thanks Governor Ivey for her leadership and the Legislature for its work to improve Alabama’s roads and bridges.”
The DeKalb County Commission contributed $100,000 in matching funds for this project.
