Thursday, Alabama took another step forward in strengthening its ties with Israel when it announced the establishment of the Alabama-Israel Legislative Caucus. This bipartisan and bicameral caucus will serve as a platform for strengthening the bilateral relations between Alabama and the State of Israel in the political, economic, cultural, and academic realms. The founding co-chairs of the Alabama-Israel Legislative Caucus represent a diverse and bipartisan coalition dedicated to advancing the relationship between Alabama and Israel.
The co-chairs include Representative Phillip Ensler, Democrat; Representative David Faulkner, Republican; and Senator Arthur Orr, Republican. Their leadership underscores the commitment of both parties to enhancing the partnership between the state of Alabama and the State of Israel.
The formal announcement of the caucus took place during a press conference on Wednesday, May 8th in the State House Joint Press Room. The Consul General of Israel to the Southeastern United States, Ms. Anat Sultan-Dadon spoke at the event along with the caucus cochairs.
Commenting on the establishment of the Alabama-Israel Legislative Caucus, Consul General Anat Sultan-Dadon stated, “The establishment of the Alabama-Israel Legislative Caucus is a testament of the deep connection and friendship between the state and people of Alabama and the State of Israel. At a time when Israel is fighting a war against a genocidal terror organization and those who seek the destruction of the Jewish state and people, the establishment of this caucus highlights the shared values and interests that unite Israel, Alabama and the United States. We are all made stronger by standing together for life, freedom and the values that we all hold dear. We are grateful for our many Israel friends and allies in Alabama, and we look forward to this Alabama-Israel Legislative Caucus serving as a platform to further strengthen our close relations.”
According to Rep. Phillip Ensler, “I am deeply honored to be a co-chair of this important caucus and partnership with one of the only democracies in the Middle East. It is essential that Alabama and Israel maintain and further their strong bonds — particularly during these trying times for Israel and the Jewish people. As the only Jewish member of the legislature — who has been to Israel numerous times and has many close friends there — I am especially grateful and humbled to be a part of this effort. I am thankful to my colleagues in both parties and chambers for supporting this effort.” The Alabama-Israel Legislative Caucus marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Alabama and Israel, emphasizing the importance of bipartisan collaboration in advancing shared interests and values.
