The Alabama Forestry Association (AFA) announced its endorsement of Jeana Ross for the special election for Alabama House District 27 which covers a portion of Marshall County.
Ross is a lifelong resident of Marshall County. She and her husband currently reside in Guntersville. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in early childhood education from The University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master’s degree in education leadership from the University of Alabama.
Ross began her 26 years career in public education as an elementary school classroom teacher in Jackson County in 1975, and, after taking a break to start a family, later moved into administrative positions in the Marshall County, Boaz City, and Madison County School systems. She is now a consultant for early education policy and practice.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of ForestPAC and have the support of members of the Alabama Forestry Association,” said Ross. “The forest products industry is important to north Alabama, and the jobs it creates are vital to our growing state economy. I am extremely pleased to receive this endorsement of my campaign for the Alabama Legislature by one of our state’s most conservative advocacy groups.”
Ross has been a leader in advancing Alabama’s Pre-K programs. She served as Secretary of Alabama’s Department of Early Childhood Education in the cabinets of two governors and during this time, Ross expanded Alabama’s First Class Pre-K Program to all 67 counties in 2020 with an increase in classrooms from 217 to 1,350. She held this position from 2012 until her retirement in 2020 and earned the state’s pre-kindergarten program recognition as the nation’s best for the 14th consecutive year.
“We know Jeana will continue her career of public service as she becomes a great representative for Marshall County,” said AFA President and CEO Chris Isaacson. “We are pleased to endorse her for House District 27. Her exceptional background in education policy will be a welcome addition to the legislature, especially as we look to prepare our future workforce.
Ross is seeking election to House District 27 in the Special Primary Election on April 2, 2024. This seat became vacant after State Representative Wes Kitchens won the seat for Senate District 9.
