Sewell to deliver $21.6 million to Birmingham for Urban Trail, Multimodal Corridor

Funding is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity Grant Program.

Today, February 26th at 11:30 a.m. CST, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell, AL-07, will be joined by Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin and officials from the City of Birmingham, Birmingham City Council, and Jefferson County as well as local stakeholders for a press conference at the Birmingham Intermodal Facility where she will deliver a check for $21,681,306 that she helped secure to construct the Birmingham Urban Trail and Multimodal Corridor.

Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell, AL-07; will meet with Mayor Randall Woodfin, City of Birmingham; Charlotte Shaw, CEO and Executive Director of Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority; Ivan Holloway, Executive Director, Urban Impact; Rusha Smith, Executive Director, Freshwater Land Trust; David Fleming, President & CEO, REV Birmingham; Denise Gilmore, Senior Director of the Division of Social Justice and Racial Equity for the City of Birmingham; Meghan Venable-Thomas, Director of Community Development for the City of Birmingham; and Christina Argo, Strategic Projects and Innovation Division Manager for the City of Birmingham Department of Transportation.

Funding is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant Program and will be used to enhance transportation networks and create a more walkable, bikeable, safe, connected, and livable community. Prior to the press conference, Rep. Sewell will host a roundtable with local leaders to discuss the funding’s impact.
