I do believe that our Local must support those who have supported us.

At the IBEW Local Union 443 membership meeting on Feb. 10, 2024, Anthony Daniels who is the current minority leader in the Alabama House of Representatives, spoke to the membership as a candidate for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.

Daniels spoke about his time as a member and officer of the National Education Association and his work since he has been in the Alabama Legislature, including the passage and bipartisan support for the Alabama Overtime Bill which is the only bill of its kind.  The bill removes the 5 percent Alabama income tax on overtime in Alabama. He also asked the members for their support as boots on the ground helping him get elected.

Daniel’s came up with the idea for the overtime bill and introduced it as a way to put money back in the pockets of men and women who work hourly without costing their employer. The hard-working men and women who will benefit from this bill which took effect on Jan. 1, 2024, are likely to use that extra 5 percent on overtime hours to bolster local economies by spending those savings at local businesses.

After Daniels had left and under new business, a motion was made and seconded and unanimously passed to endorse Daniels for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District.

I have often told people that IBEW Local 443 does not tell its members how to vote, instead we inform our members on specific matters related to candidates’ positions on issues that affect Union Members and men and women who work for a living.

I do not want to take anything away from any of the other candidates in the race because there are some great candidates who are supportive of Unions and working men and women. However, I do believe that our Local must support those who have supported us. I can’t think of another bill that is more impactful to the livelihood of men and women who work for a living in Alabama than the overtime bill that Anthony Daniels authored and was able to get passed with overwhelming support from both Democrats and Republicans. Anthony has proven his commitment to helping working men and women though his actions.

It is for these reasons that I ask each IBEW Local 443 member and everyone who works for a living in the newly drawn 2nd Alabama Congressional District to research each candidate and strongly consider supporting Anthony Daniels, a candidate who supports you!
