As the 2024 political races heat up, the endorsements are starting to roll in. Rep. Anthony Daniels announced his first over the weekend, picking up support from the Professional Fire Fighters Association in the race to win Alabama’s 2nd congressional district.
“We are honored to receive the endorsement from the Professional Firefighters Association. Their support is a testament to our commitment to deliver for our working-class heroes who prioritize public safety,” Daniels said in a statement. “This endorsement is particularly meaningful to me because of the selfless sacrifice that firefighters exhibit every single day as they serve every member of our community.”
The Professional Fire Fighters Association, as the name suggests, is the Alabama chapter of the nationwide firefighters union, which represents thousands of firefighters all over the country and in Alabama. The union assists with training and education and it works on behalf of firefighters to ensure the election of public safety-conscious lawmakers, according to its website.
“I want to recognize the true and everyday heroes that make a real and profound difference in all of our lives, especially when it matters most, when every second matters,” Daniels said. “These unnamed heroes- our first responders and, most notably, our firefighters, who give everything to ensure our safety and the wellbeing of your family in times of crisis.”
Daniels is generally considered the favorite in the CD2 race, although early polling has shown a large number of undecided voters in the newly-drawn district. CD2 was the subject of a challenge that was eventually settled by the U.S. Supreme Court, which required the state to redraw the district lines after it was determined that Black voters had been discriminated against and unfairly marginalized.
The new district is likely to elect a Democrat and there is a 12-candidate field vying for the Dem nomination.
