On Wednesday, Alabama State Sen. Greg Albritton, R-Atmore, officially announced his campaign for the 2nd Congressional District seat.

“The purpose of this news conference is to publicly  and officially announce my candidacy for the US Congress in congressional district 2,” Albritton stated.

Albritton officially joins a group of candidates that has quickly expanded over the last week. On the Republican side the race includes Albritton, Caroleene Dobson and Dick Brewbaker. On the Democratic end several established Democrat legislators joined recently including Sen. Kirk Hatcher, D-Montgomery, Rep. Napoleon Bracy, D-Prichard and Rep. Jeremy Gray, D-Opelika.

“I think they’re high,” Albritton said of his chance to win the seat. “I think this has been drawn yes, by the courts, to make it a competitive district. And in that aspect, they were successful. This is a very competitive district. The numbers show that, the only way it’s not competitive is economic. So it will be hard race it’s not a shoo in. I’ve got to earn these folks and I intend to do so both Republican and Democrat.”
