The Valley Labor Report, Alabama’s only union podcast and talk radio show, is hosting its first live show on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at Shenanigans Comedy Theatre in Huntsville, Alabama.
The event will include hosts Jacob Morrison and Adam Keller talking to organizers about unionizing in the South and the “hot labor summer.” There will also be comedians at the show as well to help facilitate a fun and lively setting.
Morrison said he is excited to discuss wins that the organizers have had against their bosses because those stories are often never told.
“That’s something that you don’t really hear a lot about, you know, workers telling their own stories in and of itself is something that’s pretty rare today,” Morrison said. “But then telling stories where they’re, you know, against people more powerful than than them and winning is really, really something that I’m looking forward to a lot and I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Morrison said they also plan to include a game that involves guessing between multiple scenarios to determine which is a lie. The game is based on actual instances of employers doing something very extreme at the workplace.
Recently there has been a wave of union activity across the country most notably in Hollywood with the SAG/AFTRA strike still ongoing. Thursday night the United Auto Workers launched a historic strike last night after failing to reach a contract negotiation with Detroit automakers.
“We’ll talk about the ‘hot labor summer,’ swap some bad boss stories, and enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship centered around the power of working class solidarity and unionization,” said Keller.
