Members of the Bay Area Chapter of Drive Electric Alabama welcomed the second annual Electric Vehicle (EV) Road Trip to Mobile’s Bienville Square on Wednesday, June 14.
Daphne Dixon, executive director of the Connecticut Southwestern Area Clean Cities Coalition, and Connecticut Clean Cities intern Alyssa Murphy stopped in Mobile during their day’s journey from Baton Rouge, La., to Pensacola, Fla.
The EV Road Trip is a 5,100-mile trip from California to Rhode Island in a Chevrolet Bolt EUV that has been provided by Hertz, the trip’s vehicle sponsor. This is the second year Dixon and Murphy have embarked on the cross-country trip to showcase EV functionality and demonstrate the impact EVs can have when adopted by businesses, governments and community organizations.
“This year we wanted to take it one step further,” Dixon said. “We chose 30 municipalities across the country to ask them the question: Is your municipality ready? We’re in Mobile, Alabama, and it looks like you’re well on your way.”
Dixon and Murphy left Mobile with a Mardi Gras-themed gift bag provide by the Bay Area Chapter of Drive Electric Alabama, including several Moon Pies. They also plugged into the charging station at Bienville Square.
“Everyone is so hospitable and I can’t wait to come back here when I have more time,” Dixon said. “I can tell from the people I’ve talked to and what I’ve learned that Mobile is very educated on EV adoption.”
The EV Road Trip can be tracked at www.evroadtrip.org and on Facebook.
The Bay Area Chapter of Drive Electric Alabama is a local club for EV owners and enthusiasts.
