The Alabama Forestry Association has endorsed Republican April Weaver, who is seeking re-election for State Senate District 14, which covers all of Bibb County and parts of Chilton and Shelby Counties.
Weaver is currently the only Republican woman serving in the Alabama Senate. She is a registered nurse and has worked in health care roles for 20-plus years.
Prior to her election to the Alabama Senate, Weaver served in the Alabama House of Representatives for 10 years after being elected in 2010. She resigned from that position in 2020 to serve in the Trump administration, becoming the Region IV Regional Director for the United States Department of Health and Human Services. She earned a certificate in nursing from Kaplan University, an associate’s degree in nursing from Shelton State Community College, a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama, a master’s in business administration from Independence University and an executive certificate in energy policy planning from the University of Idaho.
Following her role in the Trump Administration, Weaver recently won the July 2021 special election for the District 14 Senate Seat that opened with the resignation of Cam Ward when he accepted the appointment to become the director of the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles. She received 80 percent of the vote in the election.
“April has been exceptional to work with over the years and I am thankful to have her representing AFA’s members in District 14,” said President and CEO of AFA Chris Isaacson. “April’s experience at the State and Federal level really sets her apart as a leader for Alabama. We are proud to support her with her plans to lead District 14 and our State in the Senate.”
“I am so pleased to receive the endorsement of the Alabama Forestry Association. Forestry is a key contributor to the economy of my district and I support the values and principles that AFA’s members represent. Limited government, fiscal responsibility, private property rights … we are definitely on the same page.”
Weaver will seek the Republican nomination for Senate District 14 in the primary election on May 24, 2022.
