Online job ads in September up 70 percent from last year

Fourteen percent of job ads have salaries of $75,000 and above.

Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Labor’s Labor Market Information Division shows that as of September 2021, the yearly comparison of online job ads is 90,816, up 70 percent from September 2020. The monthly total of online job ads for September 2021 is up 3.8 percent with 26,781 new online ads.

The five occupations with the most online job ads continue to be for registered nurses, retail salespersons, customer service representatives, truck drivers, and sales representatives with 14,798 ads placed for those occupations in September.

The HWOL data is compiled from all online job postings in the state, including those posted on the state’s free online jobs database, AlabamaWorks.alabama.gov, and other sources, such as traditional job boards, corporate boards, and social media sites.

Fourteen percent of job ads have salaries of $75,000 and above; 14 percent have salaries in the $50-75,000 range; 21 percent have salaries in the $35-49,000 range; and 51 percent have salaries of $35,000 or under.

The two employers posting the most online ads in September were: UAB Health System (1,846) and Huntsville Hospital (970). These were followed by Encompass Health (685), University of South Alabama (636), Lowe’s (623), Walmart (618), Tenet Health System (555), University of Alabama at Birmingham (551), Auburn University (489), and Grandview Medical Center (473) to round out the top 10.

Physical Therapy Assistants are the focus of this month’s in-depth analysis by the LMI division. The median annual salary is advertised as $50,684 with 25 percent earning more than $58,357. In the last 12 months, there were 579 online ads for this occupation. Physical Therapist Assistants assist physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures. Most require training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate degree.
