New unemployment claims decreased last week

Of the new claims, 71 percent were estimated to be due to the pandemic.

There were 9,377 new unemployment claims filed last week, according to the Alabama Department of Labor, down from 10,841 the previous week.

Of the new claims, 6,704 are estimated to be related to COVID-19, representing 71 percent. That compares to 78 percent of the previous week’s claims.
