New unemployment claims increased last week

Eighty percent of last week’s claims were estimated to be due to the pandemic.

There were 10,325 new unemployment claims filed last week, according to the Alabama Department of Labor, up from 8,704 the previous week.

Of the new claims, 8,306 are estimated to be related to COVID-19, representing 80 percent. That’s the same percentage as the previous week’s claims.
