New unemployment claims increased slightly last week

Of the new claims, 48 percent were estimated to be related to the pandemic.

There were 11,624 new unemployment claims filed last week, according to the Alabama Department of Labor, up from 11,395 the previous week.

Of the new claims, 5,599 are estimated to be related to COVID-19, representing 48 percent. That compares to 54 percent of the previous week’s claims.
