Congressman Mo Brooks signs “Police Pledge”

Congressman Mo Brooks, R-Alabama, announced Wednesday that he has signed Heritage Action for America’s “Police Pledge.”

“I back the blue,” Brooks said. “Unfortunately, Socialist Democrat elected officials — beholden to criminal elements who they rely on for votes — undermine law enforcement at every turn. As for me, I support law enforcement in their daily struggle to hold the thin blue line between order and anarchy, peace and violence. By signing the ‘Police Pledge’, I redouble my commitment to stand with law enforcement as they endure dangerous and unwarranted attacks from the left.”

Heritage Action for America is the political arm of the conservative powerhouse think tank the Heritage Foundation.

The pledge reads: “A lawful society—free from mob rule and violent insurrection—is not possible without Law Enforcement. Police Officers have chosen a noble profession. They dedicate their lives to upholding the law and protecting the sacred rights of their fellow citizens. As a profession, they deserve support and respect. I stand with America’s Police and pledge to oppose any bill, resolution, or movement to ‘Defund the Police.'”

“The Socialist Democrats’ plan to ‘Defund the Police’ is dangerous,” Brooks warned. “Without law enforcement, societies decline into anarchy. America must not allow the lawlessness to take hold. We’ve seen firsthand in Socialist Democrat-run cities like Seattle, New York, Portland, Minneapolis, among others, what happens when elected officials turn their back on law enforcement. Violence and chaos ensues. As a former prosecutor in both Tuscaloosa and Madison Counties, I have worked hand in hand with law enforcement to defend against our communities’ seedy underbelly. As congressman, I remain steadfastly committed to making our communities safer. That begins with supporting law enforcement and providing them the resources they need to be successful, not defunding them.”

Barry Moore, the Republican candidate in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, has also signed the pledge.

“It was easy for me to decide to sign the Police Pledge,” Moore said. “Our law enforcement officers do tremendous work on our behalf, often in dangerous situations where emotions are running high and tempers are flaring. We owe them our full support and our thanks. The last few weeks have shown us just how important our police are to our society, and how much we rely on them in times of crisis.”
