Jefferson County District Attorney Mike Anderton has been endorsed by the Jefferson County Farmers Federation and by Alabama Citizens for Life. Anderton was appointed DA by Gov. Kay Ivey. Anderton is seeking a term of his own as DA so is running in Tuesday’s Republican primary.
I’m pleased and honored by these endorsements. Both of these fine groups serve a great purpose in this state and I am proud to be recognized by them. Our farmers sustain us with the food we eat every day, and Alabama Citizens for Life works tirelessly to sustain the rights of the unborn. I intend to honor these endorsements by continuing to work to protect all the citizens of Jefferson County.”
Alabama Citizens for Life is the oldest and largest Pro-Life group in Alabama. They claim that they base their endorsement on voting record as well as a candidate’s recorded history of activity in protecting the lives of the unborn.
The Jefferson County Farmers Federation is the Jefferson County affiliate of the Alabama Farmers Federation. Founded in 1921, the Alabama Farmers Federation is dedicated to serving farmers, and promoting the economic, social and educational interests of all Alabamians.
Anderton has also been endorsed by the Alabama Republican Assembly. He was the only District Attorney candidate in the state to be so endorsed by the ARA.
Anderton will face Bill Veitch in the June 5th Republican primary for the Birmingham Division District Attorney position. In 2016, Veitch was defeated by Lynneice Washington in the Bessemer Cutoff District Attorney’s race.
Anderton was appointed Jefferson County District Attorney by Gov. Kay Ivey in 2017 when the post became vacant after the incumbent, Charles Todd Henderson, was convicted of perjury. Anderton has been working in the Birmingham DA’s office since 1984. This is his first time seeking political office.
The major party primaries will be on June 5.
