Trip Pittman endorses Roy Moore for Senate

Saturday, August 26, 2017, State Senator Trip Pittman (R-Montrose) endorsed Judge Roy Moore (R) for the US Senate seat in the Republican Primary runoff on September 26.

Senator Trip Pittman made the announcement at a press conference during intermission at the Alabama Republican Party Summer meeting on the campus of Troy University.

Pittman said, “Judge Moore and I both believe in limited government and fiscal responsibility and I am pleased to support him.”

Sen. Pittman continued, “Judge Moore has run a great campaign, and I firmly believe he’s the best choice for Alabama. If the people of Alabama want a Senator who will go to Washington and stand up to the establishment by working to end out-of-control government, excessive regulations and address the devastating impact Obamacare has had on our families and the economy, we need to elect Roy Moore.”

Pittman said that he was “disgusted” by the negative primary campaign.  It is time for all Republicans to come together to elect our nominee in December.  Pittman challenged Luther Strange to announce that he will support the nominee of the party in the General Election. Pittman urged a return of “Reagan’s 11th Commandment: thou shall not speak ill of thy fellow Republican.”

Pittman said that as we traveled all over the state attending functions with the other candidates that you get a lot more depth about them and that he is supporting Moore because he has a commitment to the law of the land and the Constitution.  “We need a revival of faith and family in this country.”  Pittman also lamented the debt and extolled Judge Moore’s support for free market capitalism.

Former Chief Justice Moore said in a statement, “I’m grateful to have the support of a strong and principled leader like Trip Pittman.  At the State level, he has worked hard to make sure Alabama lives within our means.  That’s exactly what I plan to do in the US Senate, and I look forward to working with him and other leaders in the Legislature to promote the kind of robust economic growth that government fiscal responsibility fosters.”

Moore said that “Running against Trip Pittman was very difficult because we believe so many of the same things.  We share the same values.”

Judge Moore said that there is a group in Washington trying to elect his opponent (Luther Strange).  “The only reason they would want to do this is to find someone who will fit in in that group in the Washington DC swamp.” Mitch McConnell and the DC Republicans haven’t done anything on healthcare. Haven’t built the wall, and have stalled President Trump’s agenda.  “Some in the media and some in the Congress don’t want to move forward.”

Pittman is a State Senator, tractor dealer, and businessman from Baldwin County.  He ran for Senator in the Republican Primary finishing fourth out of nine candidates.  Pittman, who favors term limits, has said that he will not run for a third full term in the Senate.

Moore predicted a late offensive by Strange and his Washington allies: “We know that they are going to come out with negative attacks.  They can’t win on credentials.  They can’t win on issues.  It is not strange why they are waiting. I don’t have the millions of dollars, that he has to launch a similar campaign but I have tremendous grassroots.  We go into a restaurant and not only do they know me they know who I am, but what I believe and have their support.”

Moore campaign chairman, Bill Armistead, said that Moore has, “Run a great campaign and the best is yet to come.  Conservatives all over the state are coming together,” to elect Roy Moore to the Senate.

The Republican Primary runoff will be September 26, 2017.
