Wednesday, August 2, 2017, State Senator Bill Hightower (R-Mobile) filed his campaign’s July 2017 Campaign Finance Report.  The report shows that Hightower raised $269,926 in direct contributions from donors in July.  The Senator ended the month with $467,752, spending only $12,923 in the month.

Sen. Hightower said, “The financial and volunteer support I am receiving is very encouraging, and it’s coming from all across Alabama.”

Hightower said. “It is a clear indication that my conservative credentials and work ethic resonates with Alabamians, who want real change in how Montgomery works.”

The top contributors to Hightower’s campaign in this report were: the Theodore Industrial Port $25,000, Real Estate Equity Investments $25,000, Johnson Cries Construction $15,000, Henry B. Fulghaham $10,00, and Curtis Pilot $10,000, Rodney Pilot $10,000, W. Davis Pilot $10,000, E. Grace Pilot $10,000, and Daphne Fonde $10,000.

Curtis Pilot is the President of Catastrophic Management Solutions Inc. (Curtis, Rodney, W. Davis, E. Grace, and Daphne all use the same PO Box in Mobile).

The Theodore Industrial Port is a 400 acre facility at the mouth of a deep water industrial canal.  This 40 foot deep federally maintained channel empties into the Mobile Bay ship channel.  The Port has two docking facilities, one 1700 feet and another 1300 feet.  The port’s heavy lift capabilities provide the ability to handle multiple ships of virtually any cargo.

Hightower has not officially announced his intentions to run for Governor.

The race for Governor is already crowded.  PSC President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh (R), former Morgan County Commissioner Stacy George (R), former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb (D), same sex marriage advocate Chris Countryman (D), Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington (R), evangelist Scott Dawson (R), and Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle (R) have all announced that they are running for Governor.

State Auditor Jim Zeigler (R) and Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox (D) are exploring running for the office.

Governor Kay Ivey (R) has not yet made a decision on whether or not she will run for the office in 2018.  Ivey was elected twice as Lt Governor and assumed the office in April when Governor Robert Bentley pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of campaign finance laws.

The Major Party Primaries will be on June 5, 2018.
