Tuesday, January 10, 2017, US Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) testified before the US Senate Judiciary Committee in his bid to be confirmed as President Donald J. Trump’s US Attorney General. A number of Alabama’s Republican leaders expressed their support for the popular Senator Sessions.
US Representative Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) attended Senator Jeff Sessions’ US Senate confirmation hearing to convey his support for his confirmation as Attorney General.
Congressman Brooks said in a statement, “Senator Jeff Sessions made the State of Alabama proud with his display of honor and dignity during today’s US Senate Attorney General confirmation hearing. I have been fortunate to know Senator Sessions for more than 20 years and admire him as a dedicated public servant of strong moral character, committed to upholding the rule of law.”
US Representative Martha Roby (R-Montgomery) said in her own statement, “Senator Sessions really knocked it out of the park today. He was fully prepared and poised in the face of some pretty tough questioning. I’m glad that the American people are finally seeing in Jeff Sessions the principled, fair-minded leader that Alabamians have known for many years.”
US Representative Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) said, “I have always believed that Senator Jeff Sessions would make an excellent United States Attorney General. Today Senator Sessions showed the American people his outstanding record and that he is a man of deep and unwavering integrity. I am confident the Senate Judiciary Committee will come together and favorably report Senator Sessions’ appointment to be the next Attorney General. Under Senator Sessions’ leadership, the Department of Justice will uphold and enforce the laws and the Constitution.”
US Representative Bradley Byrne said, “Senator Sessions’ ethical nature, dedication to public service, and commitment to the rule of law shined throughout his confirmation hearing today. He showed great poise and a deep understanding on a wide range of important issues. The petty political attacks on his character fell flat, and Senator Sessions just further indicated why he is the perfect choice to lead the Justice Department.”
Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan said in a statement, “The introduction of President-elect Trump’s United States Attorney General nominee, Alabama’s own Jeff Sessions, was full of positive and honorable accolades. In introducing his friend and colleague, we are proud of Senator Richard Shelby’s solid support and words of wisdom he shared with our nation on behalf of Senator Sessions. Alabama knows Senator Sessions very well. In fact, he was the only United States Senator in 2014 that had no opposition for re-election. His dedication to the laws of our lands and deep respect for our citizens has earned him great honor to all who know and have worked with him.”
US Representative Mike Rogers (R-Saks) said, “Today, the country saw what we in Alabama have known for many years – Jeff Sessions is a man of great character. Jeff’s steady and honest performance in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee is exactly what I’d expect from him. His knowledge of the law is unmatched. He respects the rule of law, and as Attorney General he will bring integrity to the Department of Justice. I am proud to call Jeff a colleague and friend.”
US Representative Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) said on social media, “Senator Sessions did a great job today. He showed the rest of the country what Alabama already knows, that he will make a great United States Attorney General.”
Former Alabama Republican Party Chairman Bill Armistead said, “Mighty proud of our United States Senator, Jeff Sessions, as he responds to questions by members of the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation hearing to be the United States Attorney General. I have known Senator Sessions for over 20 years and he is one of the most honest and dedicated public servants I have known. America will soon see the Jeff Sessions that I have known for all of these years and be equally proud of him as am I once he is sworn in as Attorney General. God bless you my friend.”
The Committee will reconvene today at 8:30 a.m. Central Time. No more testimony is expected from Sen. Sessions.
