On Thursday, November 26 the ‘Wall Street Journal’ reported that Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) is expected to drop out of the race for President of the United States due to trouble raising money.
When longtime Republican frontrunner former Florida Governor Jeb Bush (R) appeared to stumble, Ohio Governor John Kasich entered the Presidential race. Kasich had experience in the Congress and experience as Governor of the most critical of the swing states.
Alabama Governor Robert Bentley (R) shocked many when he endorsed his colleague from Ohio. Gov. Bentley said in a statement at the time, “John Kasich’s success in putting conservative ideas to work in Ohio—cutting taxes $5 billion, turning an $8 billion shortfall into a $2 billion surplus, and creating 350,000 new jobs—are all strengths he will have as President….With his record as governor and his two decades on the House Armed Services Committee working with leaders like President Reagan to strengthen our military, end the Cold War and revamp the Pentagon, John Kasich is a leader whose readiness to lead our nation on his first day in the Oval Office is unmatched. America needs John Kasich”
Kasich tried to position himself as the moderate in the field……the path that led to victory in the primaries for Mitt Romney and John McCain in 2012 and 2008.
In the recent Fox Business Channel, New York City billionaire Donald Trump defended his get tough approach to America’s immigration policy: “We are a country with laws. We either are a country or we are not.” Deporting illegal aliens is necessary, “If we are going to have a country.” “We are going to have a wall.”
Governor Kasich said that was, “Not an adult argument.” “We can’t ship 11 million people out of this country. “Children will be terrified it will not work.” Kasich kept insisting that we can’t deport illegal aliens. An argument that apparently did not play well with likely Republican voters
Afterwards Trump improved his position in the polls while Kasich’s numbers sunk. The latest Bloomberg Poll had him in ninth place at just 3 percent.
Gov. Jeb Bush has stayed in the race while Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Senator Marco Rubio have surged.
John Kasich became nationally famous as the Chairman of the House Budget Committee during Newt Gingrich’s Speakership in the 1990s. Opponents have attacked his experience in the banking sector prior to his running for Governor of Ohio.
If Governor Kasich drops out, he will follow Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, and former Texas Governor Rick Perry out of the race.
