Mass Crowds Welcome Ted Cruz to Alabama

Republican Presidential candidate and US Senator Ted Cruz from Texas made campaign stops in Pelham and Huntsville on Sunday, August 9, following the Red State event in Atlanta and a campaign stop in Noonan, Georgia on Saturday.  Over 850 people crowded the Pelham Civic Center Complex off of Highway 31 to hear the Senator at the event which was hosted by the Shelby County Republican Party.

US Senator Cruz referencing the debate on Thursday night praised the Republican field and the great candidates that the party has to choose from.

Cruz joked that the Democrats had a “Wild eyed socialist and Bernie Sanders” running for their nomination.

Sen. Cruz said, “We are seeing the results of the Obama/Clinton foreign policy.  Leading from behind doesn’t work.”

Sen. Cruz promised that, “If I am elected President on the first day. The first thing I will do is rescind every illegal and unconstitutional executive action taken by President Obama…The President says he has a pen and a phone. You live by the pen and you die by the pen and my pen has an eraser. This has been the most partisan Department of Justice in history.  On the first day I am going to instruct the Department of Justice to open an investigation into Planned Parenthood and to prosecute any and all criminal violations by that organization.

ted-cruzCruz said, “The Department of Justice should owe no allegiance to any political party. Their allegiance should be to the Constitution. I will tell the Department of Justice and the IRS to Stop persecuting religious liberty that day. The Obama administration is litigating against the Little Sisters of the poor.  If you are litigating against nuns you have probably done something wrong.  I will send the Little Sisters of the Poor a notice that the case against them has been dismissed and an invitation to come to the White House and tell their story to the world.  I will tear apart this catastrophic Iranian nuclear deal.  The threat of a nuclear Iran is the single greatest security threat facing the United States of America.”

Sen. Cruz said that he said that if the United States gives Iran over a $100 billion (Iranian money that has been frozen for decades) as part of the Iran nuclear deal then we would be the biggest financiers of Islamic terror around the world. “In African, President Obama took time out of his busy schedule to denounce my statement. Mitt Romney said that rhetoric was over the top. Jeb Bush criticized my comments. Over a $100 billion the US Government allowed to flow to jihadists to kill Americans and Israelis.”

Cruz said that as President he would begin the process of moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.  Other candidates and Presidents have made the same promise but then when in office their team tells them not to do it because it would make some Iranians mad. “It was not ticked off Presbyterians who flew those planes into buildings in New York. If I am elected I will do exactly what I promised to do. That is day 1.”

Cruz said that “In the days that follow we will lead Congress to repeal every word of Obamacare.  In the days that follow I will instruct the federal department of Education, which I hope to abolish, to end Common Core.”

The outspoken conservative Senator said that, “In the day that follow we will finally secure the border and end sanctuary cities” Cruz said that in the year  in the year 2013 the Obama Administration released 134,000 criminal aliens including murderers, rapists, committers of sexual assault, and drunk drivers. Cruz said that in the Senate he asked an official with Homeland Security how many murderers did the administration release yesterday.  He said he did not know.  Cruz asked about how many rapists.  He did not know.  How many drunk drivers.  He did not know.  “In a Cruz administration the answer to that question will be zero, zero, and zero.

Cruz said that he wants a simple flat tax so that every American can fill out his or her taxes on a postcard.  Then we should abolish the IRS.  There are about 90,000 employees of the IRS.  “We need to padlock that building and put all 90,000 on our southern border.”

Cruz said that there are a lot of parallels to the 1970s.  Economic growth is down.  The same two nations Russian and Iran were laughing at us; but millions of people came together and became the Reagan revolution.  The same thing is happening all over again. “If you see a candidate that Washington embraces run and hide.” When I announced my campaign on March 23rd at Liberty University,”The New York Times said Cruz can not win because the Washington elites despise him.  I thought that was the whole point of the campaign.”  In this last reporting cycle we raised the most money.  The average contribution was $68.”

Sen. Cruz said, “My dad, Raphael Cruz, was born in Cuba and grew up in Cuba.  At 14 he joined the revolution and fought for four years against Batista.  When my dad was 17 they threw him in prison. They tortured my dad. He came to America at 18.  Today my father is a pastor traveling the country preaching the Gospel. My whole life my Dad has been my hero.  What is really surprising about my dad’s story is that it is so commonplace.  “My dad used to tell me when I faced oppression in Cuba I had a place to go to If we lose our freedom here where do we go?”

Cruz vowed, “We will bring back that shining city on the hill.”

Sen. Cruz called the EPA a disaster populated by zealots and radicals.  All of us want clean air and clean water.  The Waters of the United States rule. They are trying to define navigable waters as a ditch or a puddle in a yard. A president has the power to rein in bureaucrats.

Sen. Cruz said that in the last two elections Obama won young people 70:30. His popularity among young people has plummeted. They haven’t turned to Republicans. Reaganomics you start a business in your parents garage: in Obamanomics you move into your parents’ garage.

Cruz said that both parties of Congress Washington is addicted to corporate welfare.  “If I am elected I will tell Republican leaders in both Houses of Congress that if you send me a bill that is loaded with corporate welfare and cronyism I will veto it.”

Alabama Secretary of State Merrill (R) said that Cruz will be back in Alabama in August on the 25th as the speaker for a Tuscaloosa Republican Party event.

Shelby County Republican Party Chair Joan Reynolds said, “According to some polling, Alabama is the reddest state in the country and Shelby County is the reddest county in the state of Alabama.  That means Shelby County is the reddest county in the country.”

She and Paul were in Cleveland.  That arena will be the same arena where the GOP Convention will be held next year

The next meeting of the Shelby County Republican Party will be on Tuesday August 11.  Cliff Simms, Paul Reynolds, and Scott Beason will be the speakers.  On Saturday, the Shelby County Republican Women will meet.  Both events will be at the Shelby Services Center

Sec. of State John Merrill said, “You know Ted Cruz is going to stand up for what is right.  Ted Cruz is committed to doing what is right for Texas and for the nation.”

The Alabama Presidential Primary is on March 1, 2016.
