U.S. Representative Bradley Byrne (AL-1)
The House of Representatives may be in recess until September 8, but that certainly does not mean I will be taking time off. In fact, the August District Work Period is about meeting with people from all across the First Congressional District.
From the Iran nuclear deal to illegal immigration, there are many critical issues under debate in Washington right now. The August District Work Period will allow me to spend time in Southwest Alabama listening to my constituents’ ideas and concerns about these and other important issues.
Town hall meetings are a great opportunity to connect with my constituents, and that is why I will be hosting a Conservative Solutions Town Hall Tour. From Dauphin Island to Millry, I look forward to holding over 15 town hall meetings in each of the six counties that make up Alabama’s First Congressional District.
These town halls meetings will give us an opportunity to talk about realistic, conservative solutions to the serious issues plaguing our country. Most importantly, I look forward to taking questions and listening to your concerns. To find the full schedule for my town hall tour, visit Byrne.House.Gov/SolutionsTour.
My August District Work Period got off to a great start last week as I hosted Singapore Ambassador to the United States Ashok Kumar Mirpuri in Mobile. We talked about some of the unique connections between Southwest Alabama and the Asia-Pacific country of Singapore, and we discussed ways we can continue to grow economic and educational partnerships.
With August being the time that students return to school, I will hold a roundtable with the superintendents from the school districts in Southwest Alabama. We will talk about the various challenges they face and ways Congress can get the federal government off their back.
Later in the month, I will host U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx in Mobile. Secretary Foxx will be speaking with local business leaders and elected officials about our area’s transportation needs, including a new I-10 bridge over the Mobile River. I know Secretary Foxx will benefit from seeing the need for a new I-10 bridge firsthand.
I will also be holding an Ag Matters tour with stops planned at farms and timberland all throughout Southwest Alabama. Agriculture is the top industry in Alabama, and this tour will allow me to talk with local farmers and learn more about their farming operations. Unfortunately, regulations from Washington are putting unnecessary burdens on our local farmers, and I look forward to learning more about those issues.
My wife Rebecca and I will host a Women’s Forum in Mobile on August 26. This event will bring women from the First District together to talk about challenges and opportunities today’s women face. I am excited to announce that Congresswoman Ann Wagner from Missouri will be the keynote speaker for the Women’s Forum. If you would like to attend, you can register online at Byrne.House.Gov/WomensForum.
As a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, I will be hosting a field hearing in Mobile to talk about ways new regulations from the Department of Labor are making it harder for small businesses to grow. This event will help bring the debates of Congress straight to the people who are being impacted by the regulations.
Whether it is with agriculture, education, or small business, the common theme of my August District Work Period is talking about conservative solutions that address the real issues facing our country. I look forward to the conversation, and I hope to see you on the road.
