ben carson doctorThe Presidential Primary Season is heating up in Alabama.  GOP Presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson will be in town for the Grid Iron Men’s Conference where he is one of the speakers.  Dr. Carson will be back on June 28, to speak at the Christianity in America Celebration at the Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham.

Dr. Carson issued a statement on Thursday following the slayings of the church members in South Carolina: “Last night evil walked the streets of Charleston. My heart aches for the families of the victims. I pray for the families left behind. I pray for the community scared and hurting. I also pray you and I can conquer hatred.  In my lifetime I have seen such great progress. Though racial based hate is still very much alive as last night so violently reminded us.”

Dr. Carson continued, “But I worry about a new hate that is growing in our great nation. I fear our intolerance of one another is the new battle ground of evil. Today many feel it is ok to hate someone who thinks differently than you do.  The left hates the right. The right hates the left. This attitude is poison. Poison that will sicken all of us.  Just because someone is for Obamacare and another is against doesn’t change the fact we are all brothers and sisters. All Americans.”

The nationally renowned doctor wrote, “As a brain surgeon I can assure you that all of our brains look the same, no matter what our skin color or party affiliation.   The America I know and love has fought evil all over the world to protect evil’s victims. At home we must dedicate ourselves to not hating anyone based on their politics.  Our leaders have walked our country down this path and it is up to us to change course.”  “Please join me in praying for those who lost their lives last night. Please join me in praying for comfort for their families. Please join me in praying for our great nation, that we may heal ourselves before it is too late.”

The Church describes the event as an, “Uplifting celebration of God’s hand in America’s history, with music lead by our Chancel Choir and Festival Orchestra and the annual honoring of both our active service members and veterans.  This year our keynote speaker will be Dr. Ben Carson.”  The event will be in the Worship Center at 6:00 pm.”

Dr. Carson is the youngest doctor in the history of Johns Hopkins Hospital to serve as Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery and Co-director of the Craniofacial Center.  Dr. Carson succeeded despite growing up the poor, Black, son of a single parent, in Detroit in the 1950s.  Carson would go on to Yale and eventually the University of Michigan Medical School.  Dr. Carson is a noted speaker and author of 8 books, including his autobiography: “Gifted Hands.”  Cuba Gooding Jr. played Dr. Carson in the movie based on the book. Carson is not a professional politician and appeals to many Republicans who want an outsider to run for President.

On June 25 Carson will be the online guest of Alabama Republicans in the third of a series of town halls that ALGOP is hosting.

Previous guests include Carly Fiorina and Gov. Jeb Bush.
