Air Force Major and Attorney Mitchell Howie Announces Candidacy for Alabama State Senate, District 7

Staff Report

HUNTSVILLE—Mitchell Howie, a local attorney and a Major in the Air Force Reserves, has announced his candidacy for Alabama State Senate District 7.

“I’m running to represent Huntsville and Madison County in the legislature,” Howie said, “Because our district deserves someone in Montgomery who will prioritize economic development and job creation over politics as usual.”

Mitchell Howie currently serves as a Major in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the United States Air Force Reserves and opened his private legal practice in 2009 after leaving active duty military service.

Howie will use his experience as both a career military officer and small businessman to guide every decision he makes in Montgomery.

“As a small business owner,” Howie added, “I understand that the private sector is responsible for a great number of jobs created in our district. It helps to have a state senator who will actively work as a partner with Huntsville businesses. That is the kind of state legislator I will be in Montgomery.”

“In District 7, innovation is not just a concept, it’s our livelihood,” Howie continued. “As your state senator, I’ll collaborate with our local businesses and military contractors and work to bring more defense and technology jobs to our area, rather than pushing them away.”

While building working relationships with local Huntsville and Madison County businesses in an effort to expand the area’s economic development and job base is central to Howie’s campaign, he also cites continued improvement to local schools as a driving force behind his candidacy.

“I am proud of our local schools,” Howie said. “The progress we have made in the past few years, and where we are destined to go in the future. In Montgomery I will fight to make sure that teachers and support staff are appreciated for the incredible jobs they do and that our neighborhood classrooms are properly funded.”

Howie resides in Huntsville with his wife, Melanie, and their children, Ashton and Alle.

“The response to my candidacy has been overwhelming from all corners of the community,” Howie stated, “If there is one thing I have learned from the countless people I have spoken to in the past few weeks, it is that Huntsville and Madison County are ready for a leader who puts district needs ahead of politics. I intend on providing that leadership to the people of Senate District 7.”
